A closer look before you choose
Our guides help you understand the differences between local businesses and find one suited to what you need.
Start with the place and the job
Each guide has a defined topic and area. The research considers businesses with a relevant local base or service area, then looks at the services and specialities that matter for that category.
Find useful differences
A café, an electrician and a physiotherapy practice need different questions. The criteria and selection method are explained within each guide, along with why each business was chosen.
Keep evidence separate from the story
Research records support the article’s specific claims. The guide should explain the business clearly without making you read a research report. We do not claim to have visited, tested or mystery-shopped a business unless that work actually happened.
Use tools with accountability
Automated research and writing tools can help prepare a guide. The individual guide’s method describes what was checked and any important limitations. A business’s own claims, customer accounts and independent reporting are different kinds of evidence.
Keep advertising separate
Businesses cannot buy an editorial recommendation or position. Advertising and sponsorship are identified as paid placements. Our separate marketing services do not determine editorial selection.
Review meaningful changes
Guides can change as businesses open, close or develop new services. A review date should reflect a substantive review, not a routine save or website deployment. Historical editions, where available, are labelled with their year.
